It has to take all\nthe load(dynamic as well as impact loading) while operating. The guideways for\nthe same are perpendicular to the column face accurately finished to move the\nsaddle quickly and easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most generally it\nis made up of cast iron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Column:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The right vertical\ncast integral rigid part of the base is the column and it serves the following\npurposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It houses the\ndriving mechanism of the ram reciprocating on its front vertical face. <\/li><li>It is also capable\nof housing the feeding mechanism of the table.<\/li><li>It subsequently\nmoves on the guideways on the base to provide a longitudinal feed of the table,\ni.e. in a perpendicular direction to the front vertical face of the column.<\/li><li>It is also capable\nof providing guideways on its top face perpendicular to the guideways on the\nbase for the cross-slide.<\/li><li>Although the\nlongitudinal feed may be given either manually or by power.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cross-Slide:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It is generally\nmounted on the guideways of the saddle and can provide cross-feeding of the\ntable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Cross-slide holds\nthe circular table. <\/li><li>It generally\nprovides the arrangement of cross-feeding either annually or by power.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Circular or Rotating Table:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It\nholds the ability to rotate on the cross-slide to provide circular feeding of\nthe work.<\/li><li>It\ncan definitely hold back the work by clamping, using fixtures and fixing vices,\netc. <\/li><li>It\ndoes have the arrangement of the rotary feeding either by hand or by power.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On certain machines the table graduates in degrees for indexing.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ram and Tool Head:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ram generally slides on the guideways mounted on the vertical face of the column and provides a slot for changing the position of the stroke. The\nregulating valve admits the oil under pressure. A regulating valve admits oil\nunder pressure to each and every piston alternatively at the same time allowing\nthe oil from other end to reach the reservoir<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The piston that is\npushed by the oil and connected to the ram by the piston rod pushes the ram\ncarrying the tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The relative\nadmission of oil to each end of the piston alternately is accomplished with the\nhelp of the trip dogs and pilot valves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As and when the ram\nmoves and completes its stroke, a trip dog will trip the pilot valve operating\nthe regulating valve. The regulating valve admits oil to the other side of the\npiston and the motion gets reversed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, the length of\nthe ram stroke will depend upon the position of the trip dogs and can be\nchanged by unclamping and moving the trip dogs to the desired position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Variable Speed Motor Drive:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In this variant of the slotter, speed is obtained by different gears present in the gearbox and the shaft rotates with the help of the electrical motor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Technically it is\nused in the larger slotter machines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Working Principle:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The definite working of the <strong>Slotting Machine<\/strong> is somewhat similar to the shaper machine, just the main difference lies in the fact that the slotter machine works vertically whilst the shaper works horizontally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now the ram connected to the crank and the crank is connected to the gears.
