People considers this festival, the one of the most colorful festivals in India. It is considered as one of the most auspicious day by the hindus. This festival is celebrated with love and joy. People mostly consider celebrating this festival with their friends and family. Holi generally is celebrated in the season of springs as there is no winter\u2019s colder breeze and not summer\u2019s warm heat either. It is also considers as symbol of victory of good over evil. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>History<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Holi is being celebrated in India for centuries. Many of the\nancient hindu scriptures like Puranas, Daskumar Charitas and many of the\nancient Indian Poets like kalidas has mentioned about celebrating holi in their\nwritings and poems. 7<sup>th<\/sup> century Sanskrit drama \u2013 Ratnavali has also\nmentioned about celebration of holi. Holi has also attracted many foreign\ncultures and people towards it and many of them got fascinated by it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/esskaymachines.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/colors-holi.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-658\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a story related to it that There was a prince who\nwas a worshipper of God Vishnu, But his king father didn\u2019t liked this and anted\nthat his son should on worship him. He tried several ways and also forced him\nto do so, but Prahalad was still a keen worshipper of God Vishnu. At last, The\nking called his evil sister and then both planned to kill Prahalad by setting\nhim on fire. Lord Vishnu protected him and Holika dies by setting up on fire\ninstead. From that day, the event came to be known as Holika Dahan. From then,\nPeople set bon fire, a day before the holi celebration day, in order to pray\nfor good life and health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a another Legend story related to Lord Krishna,\nthat is connected to the festival of Holi. Lord Krishna as a baby got breast\nfed by She-Demon Putana and she poisoned him. As he grew up, Lord Krishna\nbecame desperate of his dark skin characterizations. He was eager whether\nFaired skin Radha will like him or not. So Lord Krishna\u2019s mother gave an idea\nto him to offer Radha to put on any of her favourite colour on his face. From\nthat day, people, especially in Vrindavan (place where Lord Krishna grew up) celebrate\nholi with joy and happiness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is another story related to Lord Shiva and Goddess\nParvati. One day, Lord Shiv was lean into his meditation and Goddess Parvati\nwanted him Stop His Meditation. So, for this she took help God of Love,\nKamaDev. Kamadev shoots his Love arrow towards Lord Shiva,&nbsp; But lord opens his third eye and burnt him.\nThis upsets God Kamadev\u2019s Wife Rati and even Goddess Parvati. Rati Performed 40\ndays meditation in order to wish for the return of God Kamadeva. Lord Shiv,\nUnderstanding the situation, Returns life to God Kamadeva. This story, is has\nits own significance in South India. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even During Mughal Raj in India, Many of the Mughal emperors\nused to play holi. The also mentioned holi as Aab-e-ePashi or Eid-e-Gulaab.\nMehfils were organized during the celebration in Lal Qila in Delhi. There are\nseveral paintings depicting the celebration of holi by the Mughal Emperors. But\nthe celebration of holi got banned during the reign of Aurangzeb as he issued\nthe farman of holi ban in November 1665. Many kings like Bahadur Shah Zafar\nmentioned about holi in his writings and poems. Many others poets like Nazeer\nAkbarabadi, Amir Khusrao, Mehjoor Lakhnavi and Ibrahim Rakshan mentioned about\nholi in their poems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even Sikh Empire celebrated holi with full joy. During the\ntime of last human Gurur \u2013 Guru Gobind Singh Ji, he modified holi as three day\ncelebration and referring it as hola mohalla. During these three days, Sikh\nsoldiers used to compete in military exercises, horsemanship, archery and\nathletics. Maharaja Ranjit Singh used to organize Holi celebration in Bilawal\ngardens with colorful tents and 300 mounds of colors. British Indian army chief\ncommander Sir Henry Fane used to join the celebrations. Even after the death of\nMaharaja, his sons used to celebrate holi with full happiness and higher ranked\nBritish Officers used to join the celebrations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How people celebrate <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Holi is often celebrated with friends and family. On this\nday, People celebrate this festival with colour powder, water, water balloons,\nwater guns etc. People prefers playing holi with colour powders made by\ncrushing flower petals and turning them into powder form. In earlier times,\npeople used kumkum, turmeric and neem etc to play holi. But now, colours with\nwater pigments are trending. People try to colour each other as much as\npossible. People pour water on each other with the help of water guns, buckets\nand water balloons, just like a water fight. There are singings and dancing\nalong with playing dholkis and drums. People make delicacies like malpua,\nmathri and gujia. People also likes to drink cool drinks like thandai mixed\nwith marijuana and also likes to make deep fried pakoras of marijuana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/esskaymachines.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/holi.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-659\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Later that day, after taking bath, and washing off all the\ncolours completely, peoples likes to visit to their friends and relatives and\nexchange sweets. This festivals tends to bring peace and harmony among families\nand relatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although, use of synthetic colours, mud and eggs are also\nbecoming more popular. Synthetic colours are very harmfull for the skin, as it\ncan cause various problems such as rashes, redness, itching atc, and these\ncolours often doesn\u2019t wash off properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Different states\ndifferent culture<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Holi is celebrated differently, according to different\nstates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Assam<\/strong> \u2013 Holi is\ncelebrated during two days in Assam. On the first day, people burns clay huts\nand on second day, they play holi with colour powders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bihar<\/strong> \u2013 One day\nbefore holi, people set up a bon fire using cow dunks and woods and on next\nday, they play holi using colour powder and water with their friends and\nfamily. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Goa<\/strong> \u2013 People\ncelebrate holi for about a month in Goa. People offer praying like saffron and\ngulaab to their deities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gujarat<\/strong> \u2013 In the\nstate of Gujarat, A matki or pot filled with buttermilk, is tied with the\nstring on a height, then men tries to make a human pyramid to reach out to that\npot and then breaks that pot. Then after that, people plays holi using colour\npowder and water with each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-1 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><a href=\"https:\/\/esskaymachines.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/holi-header-1024x425.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/esskaymachines.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/holi-header-1024x425.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"660\" data-link=\"https:\/\/esskaymachines.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=660\" class=\"wp-image-660\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jammu Kashmir<\/strong> \u2013\nPeople in J&amp;K region, remarks this festival as harvesting of summer crops.\nPeople celebrates this day with throwing colour powders and water on each\nother. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Karnataka<\/strong> \u2013\nPeople in this state, plays holi by preparing some unique sweets and delicacies\nand performing their folk dances. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Maharashtra<\/strong> \u2013 Youngsters in Maharashtra, collects woods in order for the preparation of bonfire, and then lit up the bonfire on the day of Shimga, 5 days prior to the celebration. People makes their famous delicacy known as puran poli. On the day of Festival, colour celebrations take place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All the states in India have different ways and cultures of play and celebrating holi.
